Workshop Fabrication Assistant – Brakpan

SMT Fabrication (Pty) Ltd currently has a vacancy for a Workshop Fabrication Assistant who will assist and support the Manager of Operations at our workshop in Sallies Village, Brakpan.  The ideal candidate must possess the following skills and attributes:

Skillset (Important)

• Competent in Gas Metal Arc (Mig) / CO2 Welding at a level of competency where the candidate will be able to pass the coding process in accordance with the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 code (existing coding or qualification is not essential – experience is required).
• Ability to read and interpret assembly and component drawings.
• Ability to mark and measure steel and components to an accuracy of <1mm.
• Experience in steel fabrication and very good overall understanding of the steel fabrication process.
• Ability to oversee projects and to assist the operations manager with planning.
• Experience in grinding, fettling and an understanding of surface preparation for welding.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
• Whilst no specific qualifications are required, the applicant must have Grade 12 / Matric.

Advantageous Skills

• CNC Nesting / CAD Experience
• Boilermaking / Welding Assembly Experience
• Experience in both Carbon and Stainless Steel
• Understanding of Non-Destructive Testing Methods
